Bizarre Stuff

Over on FaceBook, there's a page dedicated to Conservapedia, although ironically, it's meant as a parody page. Clearly the site that Andrew Schlafly thinks is merely used for gossip and breaking up marriages, isn't worthy of having a site advertising themselves in a positive light. Then again, why would they need to - there are plenty of people viewing Conservapedia. Why, there's enough that Schlafly thinks CP is solely responsible for the U.S.'s lurch to the right.  (You see, this is the kind of thing that happens when you surround a megalomaniac with simpering, spineless toadies.)

Now there's a very good reason that I mentioned that the FB Conservapedia page was intended as parody, because there have been some strange happenings going on over there. So strange, in fact, that if I wasn't that familiar with the general what-the-fuckery associated with Conservapedia, I'd write it off as somebody taking the piss and leave it at that. It might still be a classic Poe, or it might even be the true identity of CP's International Mug of Mystery, Ken Demyer.

I'm referring to a long series of rambling posts made to the CP page by one Doug Bamford. He's been at it for a couple of months now, posting such things as

Who is God? The photo below is an artist's rendition of Jesus as we have no photos or artist's rendering of Jesus and this is for good reason as God wanted us have the gift of freewill and such a powerful iconization destroys God's gift of freewill. Check out other additional renderings like this in Conservapedia where this comes from. Blessed be the view of God in Conservapedia as no other presents an approach to God as Conservapedia does.

What's strange with all this (awful grammar aside - this is not the work of a 12-year-old, but a 50-something man) is that Doug appears to be an outsider looking in, when it comes to Conservapedia. He knows nothing about the people running it (or so he claims) and has expressed no interest in creating an account. The latter is sad, because it would be great for him to obtain exposure to their insanity first hand. Even better if he gets blocked, which would be very likely.

All Doug does is post long, rambling screeds, vaguely supporting CP's POV and when questioned on them, or when specific issues, such as the Conservative Bible Project are outlined for him. As with most fundies, he cannot remain on topic when replying, always managing to somehow get the conversations back to atheism or Obama (yes, he appears to be a teabagger too - well, he certainly believes George Sorros is the root of all evil.

If you're on FB, wander past the CP page, and have a read of Doug's emissions. I seriously doubt you'll get past one or two before giving up. Still, it's nice to know that Conservapedia doesn't have a monopoly on the real nutters. I'll leave you with this little gem from Doug:

Many individuals going through a gender identity crisis as per the DSM = Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders attack conservatives as a way of expressing their anger or getting it out so to speak.

  1. Thank you.

Ken = Doug? Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. They are both prolific, write abysmally, and use the same "debate" tactics. For someone with supposedly no inside knowledge of CP, he really reads as a CP-bot.

I thought there was an "aha!" moment when he posted an homage to TK, but I couldn't figure out what it was. Amazing and delightful ignorance, or elaborate baiting/troll-like behavior?
