Homosexual Obsession? Part 1

Whilst Ken Demyer is on a one-crazy-man mission to make Conservapedia look even more ridiculous, I thought I'd take this opportunity to have a wander around another of Ken's (and possibly other CP sysops')  abiding interests: Homosexuality. And where better to begin than with CP's article on "Homosexuality obsession."

Now, I know that the title is clunky English (and, in fact, "Homosexual obsession" redirects there), but what else can one expect from CP sysop John Patti - who was the surprising creator of this entry, given Ken's obsessive need to write about the subject and who has, at best, a passing relationship with English grammar. The article opens with the - unsourced - statement that:

Homosexuality obsession describes the liberal preoccupation with promoting the gay agenda by means of propaganda. In so doing, supporting homosexuality has been mislabeled (sic) as the socially responsible action, instead of the morally responsible action of guiding the sinner from his temptations. The obsession with the gay lifestyle and all it entails is observed as being omnipresent in outlets controlled by liberals, especially the Liberal media. Ironically, liberals are seen claiming that they are not obsessive or biased for their constant promotion of homosexuality, while calling conservatives obsessive and homophobic for exposing their propaganda.

Wow, pretty strong stuff. But let's have a look at the last few words of that statement - "calling conservatives obsessive and homophobic for exposing their propaganda." Now how would one go about assessing "obsession?" Well, my wholly unscientific analysis is to have a look at the number of articles falling within the important defining tenets  of Conservapedia: it's conservative and  Christian. So let me look at the following:

Now, there's something not quite right here. There's almost as many pages on homosexuality, as there are for Christianity and conservative combined! I mean, I can understand how that pious bunch want to save every homosexual from eternal damnation (CP's POV, not mine!), but do they really need 180 articles to do so?

Let's have a look at this from another point of view. I would say it's a fairly safe bet that God would be pretty important to the users and creators of Conservapedia right? So, I thought I'd see just how well CP's article on God, stands up to their entry on Homosexuality. Well, let's have a look, shall we:

God

  • 949 words in the article (give of take a few, because I just copy/pasted into word and did a word count)

  • 3 references and

  • a text file size of 8kb.

However, it gets trounced by Homosexuality:

  • 19,721 words (again, give or take a few) ,

  • weighs in at a hefty 180kb and

  • contains no less than 350 references.

Hang on a minute, something doesn't look right here. Ah, maybe Jesus is more important than God. Let me see...

  • 11, 693 words,

  • 10 references

  • 70kb.

So basically, Jesus and God combined can't overcome the might that is Conservapedia's article on Homosexuality.

Now, if the person you hold as your saviour and God and creator and goodness knows what else, is dwarfed by an article on an evil sin, I would say there are some grounds there to claim there might be a little bit of obsessive behaviour going on.

But more on that tomorrow and as Jimi Hendrix said, "Excuse me, while I kiss this guy."

  1. That just proves that the God and Jesus pages are better than the Homosexuality Obsession page, because they're more concise. Conciseness *is* the most important thing after all.

  2. Lol - good point. Forgot about Andy's liking for concise. And given the article, plus the gazillion sub-pages it's sprouted, Homosexuality on CP is anything but concise.
